Green Heron When agitated they stretch out
their neck, and puff up their comb. This guy just saw an
eagle flying overhead. He is also twitching his tail feathers, note the tail feathers are down.
Note: I modified image. removed a distracting branch from
the background.

40D note: I tried the auto ISO for awhile this morning,
and in changing light, it goes between 400 and 800,
So I just set the shutter speed and let the camera figure out how to get that fast. Works well.

This is wonderful!! I love how you captured the moment and the agitation - especially with its crest up! I've been after a picture like this forever! Such gorgeous and elegant birds. THe green background is so vivid and gorgeous, too. Great job on this!

I use the mono-pod 90% of the time. Its light and easy to carry.
And I never get over 1/2 mile from the car. Getting too old to get
off on hiking with a pack all day. I had enough of that in the Marine corp.
